The First Men in the Moon (Penguin Classics)

When penniless businessman Mr Bedford retreats to the Kent coast to write a play, he meets by chance the brilliant Dr Cavor, an absent-minded scientist on the brink of developing a material that blocks gravity. Cavor soon succeeds in his experiments, only to tell a stunned Bedford the invention makes possible one of the oldest dreams of humanity: a journey to the moon. With Bedford motivated by money, and Cavor by the desire for knowledge, the two embark on the expedition. But neither are prepared for what they find - a world of freezing nights, boiling days and sinister alien life, on which they may be trapped forever.

*the girl at the check-in counter was a bit bitchy as well as the ladies at the "book a flight" section. i tried asking them politely about my flight but they just spewed off some southern-mandarin that i didn't quite understand. but the girl at the security checkpoint was nice to me.
*i wasn't able to bring my huge backpack as carry-on because of a bottle of tanning oil i bought in sanya (that cost me 200rmb = 30usd). there are virtually no tanning oil/lotion here in beijing.

Flying from Beijing to Hangzhou - thanks to my wonderful organisational abilities we got to the airport for the 7.45pm flight only to find that, as was very clearly stated on our tickets, our flight was at 3.15. Hmmmm. We weren't even close to making it. We managed to get onto the 10.30 one though - it made for a very late night though. Oh and this was the first, and probably only, time I've ever upgraded and flown first class :)

The Jungle Book

This is a pre-1923 historical reproduction that was curated for quality. Quality assurance was conducted on each of these books in an attempt to remove books with imperfections introduced by the digitization process. Though we have made best efforts - the books may have occasional errors that do not impede the reading experience. We believe this work is culturally important and have elected to bring the book back into print as part of our continuing commitment to the preservation of printed works worldwide. This text refers to the Bibliobazaar edition.

No child should be allowed to grow up without reading The Jungle Books. Published in 1894 and 1895, the stories crackle with as much life and intensity as ever. Rudyard Kipling pours fuel on childhood fantasies with his tales of Mowgli, lost in the jungles of India as a child and adopted into a family of wolves. Mowgli is brought up on a diet of Jungle Law, loyalty, and fresh meat from the kill. Regular adventures with his friends and enemies among the Jungle-People--cobras, panthers, bears, and tigers--hone this man-cub's strength and cleverness and whet every reader's imagination. Mowgli's story is interspersed with other tales of the jungle, such as "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi," lending depth and diversity to our understanding of Kipling's India. In much the same way Mowgli is carried away by the Bandar-log monkeys, young readers will be caught up by the stories, swinging from page to page, breathless, thrilled, and terrified. (Ages 9 to 12)
